I got my date through for my lap yesterday, was so excited when I saw the envelope, but when I opened it, it's only one of the days i'm on holiday! I had sent a message to the consultant to say the dates I was unavailable, but to give them the benefit of the doubt I'll say they didn't get it! Anyway, I rang the hospital and the only other date that consultant is currently booking for is only a couple of days after the initial date, when I'm still away! So after some excitement, I'm now back to where I was, fingers crossed it won't be much longer - if only I'd booked my holiday a week earlier!! Ho hum!
Hope everyone is having a good day, I felt pretty ropey this morning and almost went home from work, but stuck it out and feeling a bit better now

If the date is 8-12 weeks away, you could ring closer to the time to see if any additional slots have been made, or if anyone has cancelled. It's an elective surgery so you do have a right to have it done when it suits you. Hope things work out for you and you have a great holiday x
Actually, last year I had my gyn appt on 3rd June, received my letter a week later for a lap 2 weeks from the letter, I changed it as it was too soon then chose to have my lap on 31st July as I was just starting a new job x
Thanks for that, it's actually for next Friday, but I go on the Thursday. It seems like the consultant has a couple of days each month where she does the surgery, so I'm hoping there'll be something the end of June instead. Does anyone know how close you have to have the pre-op to the surgery, as I was scheduled to have the pre-op next Tues, which I can actually make - but it is best to reschedule this to close to the new surgery date? Thanks!
Hi Merlin19. Are you going abroad? I had this issue as I was given 2 dates - 4 days before my holiday or 4 days after my holiday. 4 days before was no good as I knew I would feel horrendous on my trip to Rome, lots of walking etc. 4 days after was no good either as it was too long to wait with the pain I was in.
You need to advise your consultant that you won't get insurance if you have the op after your holiday and that it needs to be brought forward asap. You can't get travel insurance if you're on any medical waiting lists, or have any undiagnosed symptoms and ESPECIALLY not if you're awaiting surgery. When I advised my consultant this, they got me a cancellation. It was all quite quick but was so grateful for it in the end. Good luck xx
Yes I am but next Thursday, so too soon to do anything about it now I don't think I'm bad enough to worry about needing any medical care whilst away, I can take plenty painkillers with me, but I am worried about it spoiling the holiday somewhat if I'm not up to doing much (and I know my boyfriend will react badly, even when I feel bad at weekends, he's like - come on it's the weekend, sort it out!) - luckily it's a relaxing holiday so I'll mostly be lying in the sun reading, but I do like to do a lot of swimming and exploring when I'm away so that might be difficult. I get holiday insurance through my bank account so don't normally think about it, I'll have to check on the details. Thanks for the advice!
