Hi, I have been put on Mefenamic acid a couple of years ago due to chronic pain during periods and slowly it works less and less and I don't know whether its me or the pills that's changing. (ps if the spelling wrong I am sorry I'm dyslexic) If you know anything i would appreciate your advice... thank you

Mefenamic acid for menstrual pain
I have taken mefenamic acid for persistent chronic pelvic pain with other pain killers too and it is an anti inflammatory only as you know. However, if your pain levels are increasing you may need to get a different kind of pain killer to go with it. Maybe things in your body have changed? I don't think the mefanamic acid itself has changed although you could ask the pharmacist when they took it off the shelves a few months back and then started using it again whether any change was made then? Alternatively you could try another anti-inflammatory like naproxen which is slightly stronger. It is also a lot worse on your tummy though so either ask for the coated one or get lots of omeprazole in because this protects your tummy lining. If I were you I'd go back to your doctor and talk through your options. Have you been diagnosed with endometriosis and could it be getting worse and therefore do you need other treatments? All the best jannie94.
Hey,
i was prescribed Mefenamic Acid about 4 years ago, and found that it didn't really target my pain properly, so i went back to the doctors and was prescribed a high dose of Naproxen. I also find this doesn't work unless i know when my period is going to be and can take it a few days before - but my periods are ridiculous and i just can't track them.
I would go back to your GP and tell them that its not working for you, and see what the next treatment is.
