It is a pro-biotic - friendly bacteria you add back to the gut. Most of the probiotic yoghurty type foods sold in the supermarkets in the UK contain the good bacterias.

But as it is used to clear up diarrhoea, and you appear to be wanting an alternative laxative, use it with caution.

There are numerous other laxative foods and meds too.

And even the notorious Diet Gummi Bears which are made of glycerine are excellent at speeding up 'transit time'.

Papaya pips, Senna Pods and various other foods have a laxative effect.

It the pain and swelling from your digestive tract? or from surgery or from endo or anything else awaiting surgery?

Remaining on laxatives of any sort, long term, is not good idea - and there are changes to the diet to help keep foods soft without resorting to laxatives all the time.

Have you tried to keep a food/pain diary to see which foods you are eating which makes things worse for you? Eliminate certain foods for a while, then reintroduce them and note the reaction. It takes a while to figure out which foods and more importantly for many - which drinks make the pain and bloating worse.

You can then figure out what are safe to consume and build up a menu around those safe foods that are not so irritating on the gut.

We are all different - so it is experimenting that only you can do for yourself.

Use the coeliac or endo diet tips for help in discovering the most common suspects.

For me - zero alcohol, caffeine, fizzy drinks of any sort as they all rapidly cause pain from the gas they create in me.

I don't eat red meat - but do have a little dairy every now and then. I don't have problem with Gluten, but it does encourage oestrogen production so I keep the intake lower than I would have done in the past.

But that's just me- and you need to find out what foods and drinks you body doesn't tolerate well. Best of Luck.

Buscopan tablets are really good. I know it says for IBS on some of the packets but they really help xx
