Bad day :'(

I had my third zoladex implant on the 14th Feb but still getting pain. Since the 15th I've had pain every day, I missed last months period and if I have one this month I'll be due to come on tomorrow. I have got really bad period pains. I was just wondering if anyone else is still experiencing pain after their 3rd implant? TIA xx

Hi,yes just had 3 monthly implants with HRT.I have had pain for 4 weeks.Heading back to the consultant next month.I don't know what it means to still have pain.Hopefully someone on this site will know why it is .The condition is so complex.Hope you get some further help x

I'm also on hrt and have 3 more implants booked in. I haven't got my next appointment with the consultant through yet though which I'm a little bit annoyed with. I'm struggling with pain relief as anything more than paracetamol or ibuprofen make me ill and they don't touch the pain! When the consultant put me on zoladex and livial he said that if I still had pain then there would be nothing more he could do? I'm very confused by this!?! I want it all taking out but they say this isn't an option as I'm only 27 next month. I have 3 children, I don't need it anymore!!!

The reason he said that if the zoladexd did not reduce the pain and there was nothing more he could do - was because that would say if endo was the cause of pain of something else. If your pains are still there despite beng on zoladex which has now shut down the endo- then the endo cannot be bleeding and causing the pain - something else is causing the pain.

That is not so easy to determine and not something most general gynae surgeons can handle.

It may be permanent nerve damage from endo or surgery or something else - it could be from adhesions too. And new surgery may risk making that worse.

If the zoladex has not improved the pain levels then there is no good in continuing it at all. Wasring your time and NHS money. You need to now speak to your GP and request a referal to one of the pain clinics. They can assess you and possibly give you a variety of methods to try out to see if there is a perceptable reduction in the level of pain you are in - or coping tips to help you get through the day.

It is not always possible to remove all reasons we feel pain, but there are ways we can learn to handle pain better.

If you are having HRt at the same time- you might want to consider stopping the HRT which could mean an increase in side effects of zoladex but also allow the zoladex to have full effect on the endo which may give you some pain relief - I personally doubt it will be that effective and that it is more likely your pains are caused by something other than active endo.

I really hope you can find the holy grail of a diagnosis for what is causing the pain and get relief too because there is nothing worse than being in a permanent state of agony 24 hrs a day. Hugs to you.

Hi, Shocked to here that there are no other options if these implants don't work .I had a partial hysterectomy in 2012 ,retaining my ovaries.I don't have periods but still significant pain. Having a full hysterectomy is not recommended as it leads to other issues,one of which is loss of bone density.I am 40 with 3 children. Hoping to have an appointment in March .I agree that those pain killers don't touch the pain.Hope you get an appointment soon .x

Have you tried the Zoladex without HRT? HRT can sometimes override the Zoladex and bring the pain back. I couldn't tolerate HRT with Zoladex as my pain would return and without my Endo symptoms all went away. Before you start worrying about the Zoladex not working, give it a shot without any oestrogen at all and see if that helps. Good luck. A x
