Basically i have my 1st gynea appointment on thursday my lap would be 3weeks ago on wednesday, and was told i had endo and given zoladex 2weeks ago since then i have asked my GP what's going on and it was a waste of time. So what i need help with is what type of questions should i be asking the consultant? Is there anything specifically i should be asking him? Iv not been explained anything at all so i want to know everything. I am in the process of thinking of different questions to ask him, but my brain has gone blank, and i just have no clue.

Any help would be hugely grateful.

What was the lap for? Was it diagnose or to diagnose and remove all the endo and cut back adhesions?

So you need to ask what was actually done inside you by way of surgery on the endo and the ahesions situation.

IF your aim if to get pregnant, then you need to ask what state the ovaries tubes were like, if endo was found on them or near them, did they check both your fallopian tubes were unblocked?

Ask how long they want you to remain on GnRH drugs - 6 months is maximum, but then add 3 months more while the drug is in the body and you shouldn't get pregnant.

Not so important of fertility /pregnancy are not the main priority. but obviously it is critical if they are a priority as the few months following a lap op to clean up your engine are the best time to try and conceive, but you can't have unprotected sex while on the drug, and certainly should avoid pregnancy completely while the drug is in your system.

You should ask about long term ways to stop your periods (and hopefully prevent more endo spreading from periods back flowing along the fallopian tubes.)

So if you don't intend to try for a pregnancy then you need to be considering mirena coil..which can be put in now while on the GnRH drug course, as it does take 4-6 months to get working, it could be that by the time the zoladex runs its course (assuming you are brave enough to last that long) then the mirena should kick in to carry on stopping periods soon after coming off the zoladex.

However if your experience on zoladex is too grim, and it is for many of us, you can stop at any stage and njot have the next implant. It isnt curing your remaining endo, just pausing it but the side effects can make quality of life much worse than just have a period so it is your choce whether to carry on or quit.

Another possibilty is to take BC pills back to back, once the zoladex is finished and you have ovulated and started your periods again. You might be lucky and have several period free months before that happens, but feisty ovaries can kickstart right away as soon as the drug is stopped and give you a period in a matter of weeks.

You might want to ask how much endo was left behind and note down the locations.

It might have been too complex for your surgeon to tackle endo on the bladder or bowel for example and these may have to wait to be cut out by expert surgeons in that field of surgery, rather than a standard gynaecologist you may need and endo specialist colorectal surgeon for example, so do try and find out the likely trouble spots that may cause problems in the future.

You could also ask about the state of adhesions or scar tissue build up in the gynae region.

Ask how severe they were? if any organs were stuck together that shouldn't have been, were they unstuck in the op? were any adhesion barriers put in place to prevent it happening again so soon?

If your primary aim is fertility and you find out that tubes were blocked or ovaries coated in endo and that sort of thing then you might want to cut to the chase and ask about IVF.

Hope these points give you some ideas about the sorts of questions you could ask.

Good Luck getting answers..these surgeons do so many ops, odds are they have pretty much forgotten your case if the appointment is a long way after the op date. So don't be too surprised if they cannot remember. Some surgeons are much better than others at noting down the tasks they did in the op.

Thankyou so much Hun you've been a great help for me. And yes fertility is a huge deal for me and my partner we already have the one toddler but i really want more, and was actually trying before i became in so much pain and was painful to have sex,6weeks ago so we stopped and then i had the lap. I was told before i went in as i was already on a ward before i went down to surgery, that they was just removing a large cyst from my left Overy. I was told from my Gp last week they did remove the cyst, but it wasn't infected like they thought it was just filled with blood and that was basically it. I asked what the zoladex was and does it stop me from ovulating, he said yes, i told him that we want more children and was in the process of trying for a baby so I'm currently not using any protect (but cant have sex through the pain). And in a kinder way he told me in really young and have the rest of my life to have more babies (I'm 21), he was then shocked when i told him i have a bycornuate uterus so to carry full term is never going to happen for me (my son was 4week prem), i also have polycystic ovarian syndrome too so all off these combined make our chances very bloody slim. I cant have the marina coil fitted as it wont fit properly because of my uterus and would just cause me even more pain than what I'm already in. In the past i have tried the contraceptive patch that makes me bleed constantly for the entire time i used them, same with many types of pills, and the injection and implant both also made me bleed continuously for the entire time i was on it. They have to be really careful what type of hormone medication they are giving me. As the bleeding continuously bring other problems too like thrush, dryness the expense of going buy the pads that you need for everyday. And thrush i cant get rid of with canisten i have to go and get one tablet that's an antibiotic that's just that powerful that's all you need to kill it as I'm allergic to what ever they use in the canisten stuff

I have a bicorunate too right down to two cervical holes... definitely not able to have kids in it..can get pregnant in theory- but shouldn't -not enough room ----BUT I have had the mirena installed when i had an op- so they could use ultrasound scanner to correctly position it in the bigger half. So you can have mirena put in, but it must be done by an expert who knows what they are doing. I was the second such person to have mirena put in to one half of a bicornuate and was warned that it was much more likely to fall out.. but it didn't and has been fab.

When the time comes and you are done with the baby production side of things...a mirena is cetainly something to add to your list of possible options.. it must be put in and taken out under general anaesthetic.... which quite honestly is the best news ever as so many ladies report that the installing is the most painful aspect. I shall PM you with the name of my surgeon because he has now done at least two such procedures - both successfully.

Don't dispair on that score. It can be done, just not in the regular clinic setting that most ladies have to put up with !!

I haven't had a baby- and you have..which means at least one side of your bicornuate is big enough for a mirena to be squished in to. ...and it works on both sides even though it is only fitted in one side !!

Oh right thankyou, it was my gp that said the merina coil wouldn't sit right and would hurt me more than anything. Its confusing as anything as every doctor has their views and opinions om the matter and they all contradict each other, makes it so much harder for us to get a true picture of what is going on.
