Occupational health assessment: Hi ladies... - Endometriosis UK
Occupational health assessment
My dad recently had a visit from an Occupational Therapist to see what help he would need on his return home from hospital after a stroke. I really don't think it is up to the OT to decide if your fit to return to work after an operation. I think you will find they are there to see what help you need at home after an op.
I had one over the phone but the guy I spoke to was horrible, he didn't understand what I was going through as he had never has had a period in this life! But some company will hurry scans etc been organised! I have been told by 3 gps that I need to quit my job as its too physical for some one with endo (I'm crew for an airline!) the last two times i flown once in April and once in August have ended up with being in hospital! X
Hi I also have one of these next week so I would be interested to also know how you get on. I've been told it's to discuss my illness and to see if any way can return to work with their help.
Good luck
Hi, wasn't as bad as I thought. I had a consultant and he was lovely. Asked what medication I took everyday and what activities I'm able to do. I showed him a list of my many meds and told him everyday is different , everyday I have pain but some are worse than others. He said he'd write back and tell them that I need rest before my op and he's recommending that I'm unfit to work till at least march 2014. He said I should attend councilling because of my low mood threw pain. Really he was all for me , making sure I was happy and resurred. He talked to me about my op even. Really nice man. Hope it's goes well x
Hi, I've instructed one of these previously on a staff member, I too have been off a while, since beg July and I thought my manager may have done one but I think as my condition is being dealt with by the companies private scheme it's a tricky one. The main questions will be once illness resolved will you be able to return and what duties can you be able to do. I.e. If you have a manual job and illness following recovery says no further manual work they will review other jobs for you. They are not looking to force you back more understand why still off ie pain, stress of pain etc. A good company will look to support your concerns. A bad one maybe looking at the impact on other staff you being off is causing, but be reassured as you will recover from your surgery things should be ok. Ask on the call can you have private medical support by the company to get op sooner hence back sooner.
Hope this helps.
Years ago I went to occy health when I had a slipped disk and my manager sent me there, they were really supportive and didn't make me go back full time I had to do so many hours to build up my strength, they stuck up for me and wouldn't have made me do anything I couldn't of
Thanks for letting me know. Good luck
