Marina coil. Can anyone advise me please the pros & cons of this. I saw the surgeon for the first time on Monday & she is booking me in.

I will have hysteroscopy & laparoscopy under general & they will put a coil in.

She didn't explain anything or give me any advice .

Also when I asked about dealing with the pain she just said "at your age you will have been through the worst" .

I'm 44.

I felt worse after seeing her instead of better.

Hi I'm 44 this summer and for the last 4 years I have been period free and menstrally pain free for this time because I had the mirena coil. My experience is a positive one I'd say go for it. Stick with it mine took 6 months to settle. I had daily spotting but was very minimal . Unfortunately it doesn't stop the endometriosis and undoubtably masks it. My case has resulted in stage 4 and a total hysterectomy last week and a farewell to my BFF but she served me well. Good luck in your decision. There aren't many positive stories about the coil but wise words I read recently, happy peope don't feel the need for places like this so we don't hear the stories. Hope you get see relief hugs J x

Hi Christel

I'm on my second coil and I absolutely love it. It hasn't done much to help with my pain, but the 'periods' I have now are nothing compared to what I used to go through.

As Jalo said, it takes time to settle and initially things might get worse before they get better, but at least give it a go. If you really can't get on with it, it's easy to get it out again.

Good luck

C x

Hi,

I have no idea why doctors don't explain things properly, but you're not alone in that. I had mine put in a few months ago and was really nervous after doing some googling. My experience has been mostly positive too though, and I wouldn't go back now. My periods are so light I barely notice them, although I do still have some pain...but I'm still in the early days. My one issue has been discovering that it doesn't stop ovulation, and that has been quite a big issue for me as that is when the majority of my problems start!

It's worth trying for you. It might be the thing that makes a huge difference to your life. Good luck!
