Enzymes with ckd

I read somewhere that taking enzymes like Wobenzym can be bad for kidney disease. I had been taking one a day for several years and was wondering if you think this is true. I always thought that systemic enzymes helped clean the blood. What do you think?

I don't have an answer to your question, but I am interested in if Wobenzym has helped you? From what I can quickly see, it's a substitute for NSAIDs?

hi it depends what is causing your ckd, if like me you autoimmunes causing your ckd, somthing to increase my immune system is contraindicated as it is increased already & been on immunosuppressant & steroids to try & flatten my immune system. Very expensive might be worth working out how much you have spent over 7 years & is it actually working?

I looked it up and read several websites but couldn’t find any sites saying that enzyme is “bad” or would harm the kidneys…it is primarily prescribed currently in the US to manage joint pain…but couldn’t find a specific reference for its use in treating kidney disfunction…from the ancillary info reading about it’s effectiveness in treating joint pain for some it mentions being processed by the kidneys. I’ll continue to look and if I find a definite answer I’ll post it.

Thanks for all that research. What I have found is that it blocks some CICS, the same as NSAIDS do, but says they only block the bad ones. So being careful I decided not to take it right now. I have been off of it for 3 months. I am a female 82 years of age and my egfr has been in the 50's for years. So I stopped taking the systemic enzymes and also eliminated a lot of foods that have high oxalates. I was shocked to see that my blood test yesterday showed a Egfr of 73.7. It has never been that high since I started testing. I eliminated the high oxalate foods like spinach, beets, almonds, chocolate (except white chocolate) and cut way back on nuts. So it went in 6 months from Egfr of 56.4 to 73.7. I will have to see what the next one shows in 6 months, but I think I am on the right track. I had read the book by Sally Norton about Toxic Superfoods about how oxalates damage your thyroid and kidneys and decided to give it a try.
