Strange eGFR Reading?

Last month, my blood test showed a Creatinine level of 1.64 and an eGRF of 45. A follow up test 3 weeks later showed a Creatinine level of 1.60 and an eGFR of 32. Yes, I was a little dehydrated for the 2nd test, but these results make no sense to me. I then used several online calculators and keep getting a result in the mid 40's. Any advice? This is very stressful. Jim

GFR is just a picture of the time you had the labs done. Very possibly being dehydrated will impact the numbers. Don't sweat it unless things keep going down. I worry more about the creatinine, which went down on your lab. I had one blood draw and for some reason they did two separate tests and they were different. Same draw.

Generally speaking, the lower the creatinine number the better. It's an inverse relationship with GFR and creatinine. High GFR is good, low creatinine is good. GFR is a type of soft data since it includes variables like age (birthdays can make a difference) and sex; creatinine is hard data which shows exactly how much waste product is in one's blood right now at this specific time. Nephs pay a lot of attention to creatinine figures. Saltyy's is trending down ever so slightly. So that's nice.
