Hi there, I have CKD but born with only one kidney and that one kidney just turned stage 4 and ever since I was young I never go vaccinated as my mum thought it would really damage my kidneys. Went and got a measle vaccine when there was a outbreak because I was scared and now my eGFR has gone from 43 to 29 in the space of three months. Other factors could've changed this but is a big drop.
What are everyones thoughts of vaccines and CKD?

Most vaccines are not nephrotoxic. The ones to avoid are live vaccines. The doctor you are working with should be able to tell you that. The issue is this: Which is worse? Getting the disease or getting the vaccine? This web site lists some of good information but it is outdated. The new shingles shot is safe for CKD patients. There are two shots needed. Believe me, you do not want shingles. The treatment for it is bad for the kidney in certain cases.
Hi Sally! Bassetmommer made some awesome points there. The vaccines would be easier to deal with, rather than the medications that you would require to get over the illness. Protect yourself in any way you need to. Ask your doctor(s) for their advice with regard to that.
Also, GFR can fluctuate according to your level of hydration as well. Be sure that you are remaining properly hydrated. Speak to your doctor about how much water you should be drinking on a daily basis. Not drinking enough can lower your GFR.
Stay well. I wish you and yours all the best! God bless. 😊👍
