I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade but... Be careful of miracle remedies from anyplace that doesn't have the approval of medical institutions in this country. There is no cure/prevention for cancer out there. We have approved methods to fight many cancers, but no cure. If we had one it would be front page news on every newspaper throughout the world. With my recent history, I'm certainly not advocating anything coming out from Big Pharma. We have had many discussions in this community and others about adverse effects from drugs we take contributing to CKD. In this instance, pears are good for many people with CKD. Just be wary of "out there" claims to be a miracle product. Okay, I'm done waxing philosophically now and am going to have my breakfast, a Bartlett pear. Yum!
I do eat pears several times a week. Have not noticed if it does anything for fatigue? I will observe. Wonder what type of pear they have in China? It's worth a try. It can't hurt. The diet I am on restricts to serving of 1 small pear.
I'm just the opposite. I like pears and peaches that are hard (like a fresh apple, especially a Honeycrisp). I never eat a squishy piece of fruit. Too much juice gets into my beard and I smell like pears and/or peaches all day. Does not help suppress the appetite. Even washing doesn't get rid of the smell. Do they make beard bibs?
I have been eating pears also. I slice them thin and pop in microwave to 60 sec and eat the heated. They are delicious and zero smart points for those on WW. Heated fruit or veggies seems to give me the satisfied feeling quicker. To fight CKD, you must become a Healthy You !! God Bless you all
Hi Newbie, funny you should say that..... I have acid reflux and due to taking Omeprazole, my kidney function has been affected due to an allergic reaction to this drug... in fact I put the blame squarely on it for causing me the CKD in the first place but that's a longer story. Anyway because I cannot take that drug, I've been following the Acid Watcher Diet (Dr Jonathan Aviv - Hay House publishing) and the recipe for his Poached pears is not only low acid but also very delicious and my go-to sweet to follow dinner. I do hope the pears can do what they claim - I have to eat them cooked as I also have IBS, which raw pears can irritate, so I hope the benefits are still available in the poached pears I've been enjoying. On steroids at the moment to counter the damage done by the Omerprazole, which don't make you feel too good, so hopefully I will feel the full benefit of the pears when I've been weaned off the steroids. Thanks again
