At next visit, We will ask nephrologist about Nettle Tea... Anyone already ask their neph?

"Nettle leaf tea is a powerful diuretic and depurative. It can prevent the need for dialysis by enhancing blood purification, removing creatinine and uric acid, dissolving gallstones, improving urination and controlling infection and inflammation of the kidneys."

Hello Hopefultaw and welcome to this Community.

Yes it is a good idea to ask your nephrologist at your next visit. As a precaution it is always best to check before you take any herbal supplements, tea etc. Some interact with medications and may not be safe to use. Have a look around the site where you will find previous discussions around this topic.

Let us know how you get on.

Yes thanks have already been a member for several weeks and have indeed explored the site along the way and posted several times. As I have mentioned in past, I would naturally always defer to my specialist, but in the meanwhile prior to next visit, I am simply asking folks who have utilized this tea to detail their experience(s). Knowledge and having meaningful discussions is truly key for many of us as we face the unknown.

Hello, Yes I drink nettle leaf tea. Now though I am late stage 5 with 8% left so there is no chance its going to prevent me from needing dialysis! But it makes a refreshing drink and I have not had any side effects. I asked my nephrologist about nettle tea and as usual she was a complete waste of time and had no opinion on the health benefits of it other than to say it wont do any harm. Best of luck.

Hi - are you familiar with Lilla Bek ? She highly recommends nettle tea for purification and hair loss - she’s 86 now , but read her brilliant books - google her , you’ll see all her tapes , etc - and life history profile ( she now lives in Sidmouth ) The Seven Levels of Healing is brilliant ! ( explains in down to earth understanding of how illness comes about - you won’t regret !

I’ve been drinking nettle tea for 4 years now. I do believe it has slowed the progression of my disease. Like Rabbit, my doctor didn’t have an opinion. He is however amazed at my slow progression. Sometimes you have to think outside the box!

I drink a mug of nettle tea every day. I also take Quercetin, vit c, a raw multi vitamin. According to my last bloodwork, my eGFR went up to 61 from the low 50s.

You can buy nettle leaf teabags or buy it loose online.

My dietitian has no problem with it.

I am more concerned about my atrophied right thyroid now than ckd.
