Any suggestions for a pleasant hot drink for someone like me who has been told to avoid coffee and tea? I know I have to avoid them because of my ulcerative colitis and don't recall whether I'm also supposed to avoid them because my stage 3 CKD.

Hi jaykay I drink decaf green tea, (a good antioxidant) camomile, red bush and earl grey. I sometimes put a little honey in as well to make it more interesting 😀 I also allow myself one decaf cappuccino coffee per day. I am sorry about your ulcerative colitis maybe some others on this site may be able to advise you there. In the meantime I drink lots of water. I am Stage 3a. Hope this is helpful

Thank you, Sukki for telling me what you enjoy drinking. I will try it. I do enjoying honey to drinks. Right now my ulcerative colitis is in remission and my CKD is stable.

If ur tea & coffee got caffeine in it yes but you can switch to decaffeinate tea & coffee so you can still drink it they say to avoid caffeine because it dehydrated you and put more pressure on ur kidney that not up to the job they told me the same thing

Hi jaykay I have just found a website you can google which may be helpful to you regarding your query. It is called Kidney Buzz tea and coffee. Good luck 😀

Nettle tea is great for kidneys. Drink it everyday

Also be careful with decaf as some companies use chemicals, some do it naturally. You sure don't need any extra "junk" put in your body for your kidneys to try to get rid of

Dear Friend, I am not sure, but, I think all these beverages with high sugar in the market are more harmful than diluted tea or coffee. I myself usually drink tea with lemon juice which helps clean the bladder and kidneys. I hope you can find a wise way to solve your problem. Good luck.

At stage 3 its unlikely you need to avoid coffee or tea (tea acts a a diuretic however) unless you've been advised by a renal dietician.

I'd look into some of the books and resources that offer clinically verified guides and dietary advice for CKD at various levels

Dear jaykay, I wouldn't have thought you had to avoid tea and coffee if you are at stage three ckd, I never had to; however, you could try warm squash or lemon juice/ cranberry juice. What about peppermint or other herbal tea? I hope that helps.
