Keto acid supplementation?

Does anyone use keto acid supplementation along with a low protein diet to help preserve kidney function and prevent further decline in eGFR?

I have read anecdotal reports from people who were able to stabilize and even increase their eGFR and other kidney function values by using this protocol. I am trying to keep my kidney function from decreasing (currently eGFR 57 with creatine high normal .96) so I’m considering this.

Hi HisLittleOne and thank you for your post. Various studies have shown that Keto Acid Supplements taken along with a low protein diet can help preserve kidney function and therefore improve quality of life. Nutritional monitoring and dietary counselling would be necessary, so please discuss this with your doctor and dietician [your doctor will be able to refer you to see a dietician]. Are any other forum members able to help HisLittleOne, please? Thank you and best wishes.

Hi HisLittleOne;

I just improved my eGFR, Creatinine and BUN from 29, 1.88 and 29 to 41, 1.41 and 14 respectively, by switching to a vegan diet. My next step is to switch to low protein diet with supplemental aminos. I read Lee Hull's book, Stopping Kidney Disease, and followed his suggestion of eliminating animal food products and that appears to have made a huge difference. I am going to continue on the journey he lays out in his book and see what happens!
