Have I got CKD or not?

I’m in the Uk. Had bloods done recently and I checked my results on line they say stage 2 CKD. I’ve just had a kidney scan due to UTI’s and that came back fine. My question is can you still have CKD and your ultrasound be ok? I haven’t seen my dr yet as I am struggling to get an appointment!!! What should I be asking her? Should I be having repeated blood tests in a few weeks etc. TIA x

Hello Bexboo1234

Thank you for your message. Welcome to this group.

It sounds as if you have had a difficult time.

If your blood results do say that you have stage 2 CKD

This is a small amount of dysfunction. You do need to see your doctor and talk about your concerns.

As you suggested you could ask her about having future blood tests to check your kidney function.

You also need to ask about the results of the ultrasound.

Our members have a lot of personal experience so may have be able to help.

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Best wishes

This is the age old question on here, what really is or is not CKD. Is kidney decline (early) really a disease or just a matter of the medical community assigning a classification to blood test results which fall outside of their "normal" range. But what is normal? Are we all the same? Is what is normal for you, normal for me. And is calling the slight variation from normal, that is called stage 2, really worth classifying and scaring people to death. One thing odd also is that we have kidney specialist. Yet if a person if they have what is called stage 1 or 2 or in many cases 3, are not even referred to a kidney specialist. So why use the frightening classification of "stage" (such as we use for cancer), yet it is not worthy of specialization attention. You do not provide your age, etc. But decline in kidneys performance every so slowly lessens as we age. And you do not provide your test results. But typically it is the creatinine level that indicates CKD. This level can be off due to medications, dehydrations, you said you had a UTI, etc., etc. I am not a doctor but I would not be surprised, if after all this UTI, stress, medications is behind you, that you return to normal typical health. But your doctor will tell you. Can an ultrasound be fine but still have kidney problems? Absolutely. It just shows there does not appear to be anything abnormal with your kidney, such as growths, scarring, blockage. an ultrasound in conjunction with blood and urine tests, medication review, history, are best to determine true CKD. You are into the trap we all fall into. A little dangerous knowledge combined with the internet. Let us know what your doctor says.
