My GFR has fluctuated between 56 and 60 since January

I have raised creatine 89 and potassium 4.9

Having ultrasound on kidneys tomorrow

Can levels stay steady for years or is this me on the rapid decline?

I suppose no one person is the same?

Jack, yes “levels can stay steady for years”. Your readings don’t look bad but of course that is all dependent on your age. Kidney function declines naturally as we age. If you are young, then your eGFR reading is right to be investigated, and you should be regularly monitored. eGFR does vary slightly from test to test - the important thing is that it remains stable at each test, give or take a slight percentage variation. You can help achieve this by sticking to a healthy diet, keeping your blood pressure under control, your weight within normal range, avoiding salt and too much protein, drinking plenty of water, and keeping active. Good luck with the ultrasound tomorrow.

At one time, it was all new to each of us on this forum. You have come to the right place. Now is the time to gather as much information as you can, and you have come to the right site.

My numbers drastically changed, ultrasound showed one wasn't draining. I had a 6 mm stone that then dropped. I look back now and ignored some signs but either way my kidney doctor thinks the stone was in my kidney wreaking havoc and pretty much destroyed left kidney. There is a dye test that gives more answered as to what is going on with kidney function.

Thank you for taking time to reply everyone

I had an ultrasound and Dr said that there were no obstructions or anything sinister going on from what he could see

He said they were a little red and a little on the small size and couldn’t give any reason why my function was 57

He just said that some folk my age would have a lowered function

I wonder sometimes has my overactive thyroid affected my kidneys as has wreaked havoc with all the other systems in my body

Any way I’ll have to settle myself and stop worrying which is a big part of my problem

Thanks again everyone x

If your in the UK the normal range for creatinine is upto 80, therefore you are just over the normal range. Your GP will check it once a year. Are you on any hypertensive or diabetes medication?

in reply to cornflake57

No but I’m on carbimazole for thyroid but readings were similar on diagnosis in January and I wasn’t on it then

Promising result for you today, Jack. Perhaps, if you haven’t already seen one, an appointment with a nephrologist might be a good idea for further reassurance. Bear in mind something I have been advised recently: ultrasound is not as reliable as CT scanning. However, if contrast (dye) is used, one type in particular can be risky for reduced functioning kidneys. One of the most important things you can do now is to ensure that your GP continues to monitor your kidney function from time to time to ensure that it remains stable at around its present level. Good luck!

Thank you Celtic!

You seem to be the daddy of this group

Thanks for that advice indeed 😊

You made me chuckle! No, not the “daddy”, just one of many on here who have probably had more kidney-related issues than we would have wished!
