Is there an Alternative Gout treatment
Check with your nephrologist. but my husband drinks "unsweetened cherry juice" to prevent a gout attack. It was suggested by his podiatrist. He drinks a glass full everyday. He does not have ckd, so you should check with your nephrologist. Best of luck, gout is nothing to fool with
I used the cherry juice too... found it best to drink plenty when I first felt it coming on....
Holland and Barrett sell it, it's expensive but you might be able to get it elsewhere....
Started to use cherry juice when my doctor said the tablets I was on would further damage my kidneys...
Worked for me....
Hope this helps....

My husband suffered badly from gout, took colchicine but only tolerated it for a few days before suffering bowel problems. Our nephrologist prescribed after an attack allopurinol 100mg daily.. The attacksAlso his general arthritis has all became less frequent but he then upped the dose to 300mg daily over 4 years ago and he has not suffered an attack since. Also his arthritis is much improved. Allopurinol cannot be given during a gout attack but only when it is under control. He has unrelated lung problems, atrial fibrillation and a single chamber pacemaker. He is pain free, active and we enjoy holidays abroad, some ballroom dancing and a good quality of life.. His is grade 3 CKD and his egfr ranges from 35 to 41.... He recently had a chest infection and his egfr dropped to 26. However the nephrologist is not concerned as other blood results are within normal range.. He tried cherry juice, capsules and diet but nothing helped... He tolerates the allopurinol very well infact has had no side effects of any sort. Our nephrologist requests blood tests every 6 weeks but no hardship therr. I
My husband suffered very badly from gout. He would take colchicine but after a few days would have dreadful bowel problems. Our nephrologist prescribed allopurinol 100mg daily and it helped a little. The dosage was increased to 300mg daily about 4 years ago and he has never had an attack since. Also his general arthritis has been so much better. Apparently allopurinol cannot be given during a gout attack as it can make it worse but begin when the gout has subsided.. He has never had any side effects from the allopurinol but the nephrologist requests blood tests every 6 weeks which is no hardship. He is grade 4 CKD and his egfr is generally 35 to 41... However infection can be a problem and following a chest infection his egfr went down to 26. The nephrologist is not concerned as his other blood results are within normal range. He has unrelated lung problems, atrial fibrillation and a single chamber pacemaker... He tried all the cherry capsules, drinks and everything cherry without success or indeed any improvement. We enjoy holidays abroad, some ballroom dancing and now have a good quality of life... He eats all things in moderation, no diet of any sort. Tries to drink a litre of water a day, not always successful. He takes sodium bi-carb 2 tabs 3 times a day which also helps we understand.....To be pain free is fantastic and for us the 300 mg allopurinol has been a wonder drug... Recently it was suggested the dosage be lowered, but not interested in doing that right now..What the future brings who knows, but living and loving each day is special. Hope you find some relief and are as fortunate as us.... Best. Wishes Belle x
If you still have the problem with gout, you might try Black Cherry juice, straight up or on the rocks. It worked for me when the meds didn't. It's good for you anyway.
