Research reveals that baking uses include the promotion of kidney health. A clinical study published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology looked at the effects of sodium bicarbonate on 134 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and low blood bicarbonate levels.
What did they find? The subjects who supplemented with bicarbonate tolerated it well and were significantly less likely to experience rapid progression of their kidney disease. Additionally, there were less patients that developed end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in the bicarbonate group compared to the control group. Overall, the researchers conclude, “This study demonstrates that bicarbonate supplementation slows the rate of progression of renal failure to ESRD and improves nutritional status among patients with CKD.” (7)

Davita.com has an interesting article on bicarbonate and kidney disease as it relates to CO2 levels. They caution to check with your Doctor before using baking soda.
The article is old but the author of the article, Sara Colman, RD, CDE, was/is employed by Davita. I no longer trust Davita. No doubt, they have a lot of information, but too many things about them make me wary. Just sayin'...
I read 2 of your links. Bad things happen at different places and businesses. One can select the web sites and information they are most comfortable with.
I haven't seen the study you are talking about. Your link to it was published in the UK. Baking Soda is made of sodium bicarbonate. With my CKD and Hypertension that would be detrimental to my health.
I came across this before. It is interesting, and I intend to research it further. However, it bothers me that the article doesn't mention the severity of the subject's CKD. Were they closing in on dialysis or were they at an earlier stage of the disease?
