Hi, it’s a relatively quick and easy op, the PD catheter stays ‘buried’ until you need to start dialysis and then it is exposed under a local anaesthetic so you can start PD.

Interesting, what do you mean by buried? I am in stage 4 and will be looking at this procedure soon I’m sure.

The tube remains under the skin until it's required I'm assuming.

As Jo Jo says it remains under the skin. I had mine fitted about 6 months before starting dialysis.

Well she had her PD fitted, and it all went well. Had it done under a general and has had little discomfort. No need for any pain killers. Just thought I'd post incase anyone worried procedure.

Thank you so much for your reply..she did say it hurt when they flushed it, but she's hoping that will ease. The renal team are fantastic.
