Hi. Last year my bowel was scanned and found that I had a stricture (a narrowing of the bowel cavity) but they also found I had this thing on my kidney. The consultant said it had to be removed and it was in February this year. I was told there was a 90% chance it was cancer. It wasn't, it was a nephroma...apparently they mimic cancer. I am now awaiting to have a bowel resection and have been told to eat a low fibre diet. I recently had a kidney function test and it was 37 gfr then two weeks later it was 36 gfr. Any suggestions how I can deal with the bowel and kidney problem. I am trying to lose weight and exercise but it is quite difficult as I feel so unwell with this bowel problem. Any advice? Thanks xx

You should not be substituting salt, just reducing it.
You SHOULD see a dietician and be given full advice on what you CAN eat, and how to prepare veg to reduce potassium.
There are several recommended renal diet/cookbooks available as well as the American Davita Diet and recipe pages:
I can relate - you are not going on to a totally healthy diet but as my doctors told me - we are trying to keep u alive while we try to find a transplant for you!
I wrote a book about it all if you want to read it for free.
