Anyone had a low drop in eGFR for eg down to 22EGFR% and managed to get those numbers up? My last reading was 22 but when first found out about CKD 2012/13 it was at 55. I am now 49 years old, and the diagnosis in my case is Reflux kidney and long term high blood pressure which done the damage. I have followed a renal diet with from a renal diet book to suit all my labs. However, apart from the EGFR and CR all my other labs are so far in normal range. Since the drop i have been given additional medication for blood pressure but then its like a vicious circle, these are beta blockers called Nebivolol 5mg and i know they can reduce kidney function. Anyway, for anything who's function have dropped that low have you managed to improve and how? Thank you. (I drink approx 9 to 10 glasses of water a day. Thanks again x

Low drop to improvement?
Hi dizzydi. Unfortunately I don't have any advice for you regarding increasing your GFR as our conditions are quite different. I have IGA Nephropathy. What I can tell you is that you may want to consult with your nephrologist on the amount of water you are consuming.
For as long as I can remember, I always drank way more water than the average person- an anxiety thing I think. In any case, my general doctor told me to increase my water intake when they found out I had hematuria.
However, after consulting my holistic kidney doctor, I was told not to drink the 10 or so glasses a day. That I was basically drowning myself and flushing out a lot of nutrients. She told me there was no set amount, but that I should be peeing every 3 to 4 hours not every 30-60 minutes as I was doing.
I'm getting a much better night sleep too, not having to get up every 30 minutes to pee . Lol!
Again, everyone is different, and you should consult your doctor and or do more research on the subject, but thought I'd pass that along.
Here's an article from the Clinical Journal of American Society of Nephrology regarding this very subject. cjasn.asnjournals.org/conte...
