CKD through IGA Nephropathy

Hi,

My name is Stav and I am from Essex. I am 37 years old and was diagnosed with IGA when I was 21. It was pretty stable and at stage 1 for a number of years however in July 14 my GFR went down to 57. In Jan 17 it is now 37. I am a firm believer that the stress I have put my body through the last few years has contributed to the deterioration. I have an appointment with the renal doctor end of Feb but my main question to you guys is has anyone with my kind of numbers significantly slowed down the process through a combination of diet and exercise? I think it's just hitting me now exactly the situation I will find myself in come a few years time and it is worrying to say the least. I am on 300mg Irbesartan but my bp is still 140/90. I'm just after a glimmer of hope that I can slow the GFR number down somewhat.

Hi Stav. I am not in the same situation , rather I am in the early stages. My nephrologist suspects Iga since I have had blood and protein in my urine for over a year and it started when I had a cold. I'm not a candidate for a biopsy since my urine protein level is low. I have reduced my meat and dairy consumption as well as exercise everyday. Did you make any lifestyle changes before your gfr went down? What type of stress did you put yout body through? I guess I'm wondering if I can prolong any progression by taking care of my health.

Hi Stav

I also have IgA and from Essex. My nephrologist thinks I've had it many years but it's only recently been picked up. My gfr has dropped quickly from 72 to 46 in just a few months so I'm worried too. I'm on Ramipril for my blood pressure. I'm afraid I can't answer your question about slowing it down but I've heard of people who have slowed it down with diet changes which I'm trying now, I'm following a gluten free diet and have cut out meat, I'm so hoping this will help. hi stav..DO NOT WORRY I HAD LESS THAN 50 PERCENT EGFR AND IT LASTED OVER 30 YEARS ..IV HAD TRANSPLANT AFTER 52 YEARS OF WORRY SO DONT WORRY!!!!!LOW FAT DIET LOW STRESS AND CARE FROM FRIENDS WILL CARRY YOU THROUGH..REGARDS CHRIS
