Now, Blood Pressure is controlled 130/80,. I use to check daily by myself since 2 months without medication, Therefore I would like to ask is this blood pressure is Safe in CKD? Because I have observed with medication (Amlodipine 2.5mg) my Father B.P. Was 120/75 but since two months my father B.P. is stable at 130/80 without medication!!

Therefore Please guys help me I am very much confuse about the medication Should I Provide or Not??

I have "fought" the bp battle for years with my father, and then myself (I am 69). the cardiologist and primary care have always wanted the top number to be in the low 130's. They advise this for folks in 60's on up. To prevent any dizziness, etc. However for the kidney (I have just one) lower is better. I do not understand why you took it upon yourself to stop the low dose amlodipine if it was achieving a perfectly great pressure (for kidney) of 120/75. I myself for long time have taken 2.5mg of amlodipine. In fact it may benefit the kidney's. Here is a link kidney.org/blog/ask-doctor/...

worried about that but your answers really reduced my anxiety. I just want that my father's kidney disease do not progress further, and that's why I was thinking that maybe reducing the amount of medicine can be avoided by the side effects of medicine and it will help to keep the disease normal, so I asked if 130/80 blood pressure is okay or not I was afraid that the use of medication is safe for a long time or not?

Of course I would ask to the doctor but Appointment is still 3 months later...

Thank you for giving me your precious time, May God Bless you good health and Prosperity in Life!!

Once Again Thank you so much !!!

Of course you want to do the best you can for him. The 130 pressure is acceptable. But if the medication produced 120's, and is such a small dose (2.5mg) if it were my father I'd continue his medication. Then once or twice a week take his pressure. IF it starts to drop too low, stop the medication then. But I doubt this will happen. Also, just for information. My doctor tells me 2 things about taking pressure. It is not necessary to take it every day, if your readings are 130 or below. If you get above the low 130's then take more often. But usually 2 times a week is fine. And be sure to take it on the same time of day each day you take it. Everyone's blood pressure is different at different times of day. But is sounds like he is doing well.

Don't be afraid of your Dad taking blood pressure medicine, like amlodipine. I can not stress to you how important that it stays under really good control. Now, doctors want your BP to be less than 130/80. Even slightly high BP can cause more damage to his kidneys. You wouldn't have to worry about his BP if he was on amlodipine and had a BP of 120/75 as you stated before in your post. It's my opinion not taking any med for BP is a BIG mistake. Of course, this is something you should be discussing with his doctor!

Also, I had to have an ECHOCARDIOGRAM last summer and they discovered scarring in my heart from my pre-transplant high BP. I am now 19 years post transplant. The doctor has to check my ECHO every year now to make sure there are no more changes.

Don't decide by yourself, you need to talk it over with your Dad's doctor. You want what is best for him.

You are probably right, I was thinking the same thing but I was not able to decide because of some question which was running inside of me that maybe reducing the amount of medicine can be avoided by the side effects of medicine and it will help to keep the disease normal, so I asked if 130/80 blood pressure is okay or not I was afraid that the use of medication is safe for a long time or not?

But anyway now i am going to follow the advice which i received here and at earliest will ask to my father’s doctor about this!!

Thank you so much for giving me your seamless support, May God Bless you good health and Prosperity in Life!!

Once Again thank you so much
