IGA Outlook

I am 41 and haven't been officially diagnosed with Iga, because I do not yet fit the criteria for a biopsy. My nephrologist suspects Iga since blood and protein in my urine started after a cold. I have normal gfr and my urine protein levels have been between 300 to 800. I was wondering if with diet and exercise that it's possible to live out a normal life and avoid dialysis.

Are u getting bubbleing at urination . that is microalbumin in urine , which indicate albumin gathering in blader during filtration as filtration mechanism has damaged ,check yuor creatinine level and GFR.

HAVE U DONE THE ULTRA SOUND SCAN OF THE KIDNEY ?

HOPE U WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL SOON PROVIDED U WILL stick to medical advice

Hopefully you have found out more information since this was first posted. However, I too had hematuria for several years (since 2013). Finally I was sent to a nephrologist who also suspected IGA nephropathy, but had not protein spill at the time. After a year of getting blood work every 3 months, I did have a protein spill, so did a 24 hour creatinine test. I had 1500 mg. At that point my neph felt it was a large enough spill to do a biopsy.

This was Sept 2016. I was then diagnosed with IGA Nephropathy and showed minor kidney scarring. Basically my kidney doc said there was nothing to be done since my GFR was above 60 at the time. Since then, I have been working with a holistic kidney specialist and did increase my GFR and lower my protein spill. However, I just had a 10 point dip in my GFR and a protein spill recently. I think this is pretty much how it goes with this disease. It's hit and miss. Certainly doing all you can with diet and exercise helps, but sometimes things get worse, then they can get a little better. Many people live for many, many years without getting worse and others decline drastically and go on dialysis or get new kidneys and go on to live many years. The most you can do is stay informed, be healthy and stay positive.

Many blessings and good health to you!
