I have suspected IgA nepropathy and I've been prescribed Lisinopril for my borderline blood pressure. Has anyone taken Lisinopril and did it help reduce the amount of protein in your urine? If so, how long did it take for you to see a decrease?

I had a negative reaction to Lisinopril and it was stopped and I began taking Amlodipine. Since then my BP has been under control. I did have a doctor who put me on Atorvastatin at 80 mg. I questioned the dosage and took offense to my question so my next doctor agreed with me and dropped it to 40 mg. That stopped my pain and the protein leaking. My labs for the last three months have been fine. Once I took another look at my meds and brought it to the doctor's attention we made adjustments and my last labs moved my GFR from 32 to 51. I no longer take their word for meds and dosages at face value. It's more like a suggestion and I have the choice of saying yes or no before the scripts are filled.
I was prescribed Lisinopril for protein spilling as well. I have low to low normal BP and a membraneous nephropathy dx.
I was started at 2.5 mg when my spilling went up to 1.0 and now I am spilling 3.8. My new nephrologist just increased it to 20mg. Luckily no side effects and I stay well hydrated which is key.
I see him in February for a check..if the spilling continues, I am going to ask for an alternative. As I am doing everything right and low protein.
I have heard Lisinopril is the most widely prescribed drug and well tolerated. Many folks on this site swear by it.
I am questioning that it may not be right for me.
Please let me know how you make out with this. I care!
I have IGA Nephropathy. My blood pressure was always low, but began rising into hypertension after I was diagnosed. I started on 10 mg of Lisinopril in July. Within a few days it went so low that I was dizzy and feeling sick. We immediately reduced it to 5mg. It still was making me dizzy, but had already reduced my proteinuria within 2 weeks, so my nephrologist wanted to keep me on it. We reduced it again to 2.5mg. My bp was still low and I was still feeling dizzy. Finally, I took 1.25mg (This is half of the lowest dose pull you can get). The magic number for me. It's kept my blood pressure around 100/75. No more dizziness and my anxiety has been reduced as well. There has no longer been protein issues so far. If you can start off low and go up that would be my advice rather than going higher and going down especially since you have borderline bp. Oh, and as a bonus, it also eliminated my migraines which had come back after I started having high bp.
I did have the Lisinopril cough for awhile and suck on lozengers, but that seems to have gone away.
If interested, I have more information on IGA N as there are some specific things for that disease that you can do to help slow it down or control it. Please private message me for more info by clicking on my name then click on message at the top right.
