Hi there, how many blood tests have you had done? Usually after 3 and if reduced function on all 3, a referral to a Nephrologist is arranged. However, different rules may apply depending where you live. I am in the UK. In regards of a Renal Diet this can also differ for us all, as it will also depend on other blood test numbers as well, such as Potassium etc. But it is still a good idea to cut back or even stop on the salt and sugar, and soda's/Cola', Caffeine and if your not restricted to drink plenty of water. It maybe that you will be referred to a dietician but this isn't always the case. Do you have the results of your other renal blood tests which is included in the full renal panel of blood tests? And do you have high blood pressure and/or diabetes? As these are the 2 main causes of CKD. Follow the good advice already given on here too, the best of luck. My function is stable at 38GFR if can vary from 48eGFR to 38eGFR, as this can fluctuate daily. x

Hi Iola,

I have CKD Stage 3b and also suffer from high blood pressure. It seems that what is good for the blood pressure and heart health is not necessarily good for kidneys. I have seen a dietician who suggested a Mediterranean diet as a sort of compromise. I have tried to adapt this by eating very few tomatoes and peel fruit such as apples etc (too much potassium). I now avoid red meat most of the time and have cut down on cheese. I have given up coffee and I am trying to drink more water, but I still drink a fair amount of tea. I would find it difficult to give up my cups of tea! I eat green veg every day, I never add salt except to a boiled egg, I avoid processed foods, cakes, biscuits and sweets, which has not been difficult as I've never been a fan of those. Since I have taken these steps over diet my count has risen from GFR 27 to 34 in the last six months so I am feeling encouraged.
