hello,

I found out in august last year that I’m type 2 diabetic. I went for an appointment to see the nurse and she put me on Dapagliflozin which I have to take one a day. But the last week, I’ve noticed my back aching and I cannot sleep because of it. Does anyone else have this problem?

I’ve been on it since last August. I haven’t had your symptoms. Initially I suffered from faintness in the afternoons and later from an inhabitual sweet tooth which I had to knock on the head.

The drug works on the kidneys which could possibly account for your back ache. Is is mentioned on the information sheet? See your GP or diabetes advisor.

If your meds are in any way linked to Empaglaflozin or another similar name like campaglaflozin, do look them up because they can be really dangerous. They can cause you to have Diabetic Keto Acidosis DKA !! it happened to me after an operation, and I was so ill everything stopped working! I was in hodpital for a fortnight on drips, and I had to start taking insulin. The consultants told me to never take such meds again. Apparently, as you mentioned, they work with the kidneys to flush away all the sugar and the pancreas does not get the message that your glucose is rising higher and higher so it does not trigger it to produce the natural insuin you need. When it gets too high you go into this DKA like coma. Don't take my word for it. The paper inside your box of meds. will warn you! Please keep safe. I could easily have died. I was lucky to have been in the hospital where they picked it up.

Hi there. I have started this med due to heart failure. I have been told this is rare and happens mostly in people with diabetes 2. I am also going to buy a sugar monitor device that can test for this. But we do get left in the dark regarding most of this as i had to look it up all myself

I was given the above medication, along g with my usual metformin, and I lost 2 kilos and didn't feel well. I cannot afford to lose weight as I am just 8 stone. Now , I am on empafliglozin 5mg. Will see after 3 months how it has affected me.

I’ve already lost 2 stone..

I’ve also noticed that the back ache seems to have subsided for the time being.

I still feel really tired, but I think that’s related to another complaint I have.

Yes, yes I had problems with Empagliflozin after being prescribed it as a person who has Diabetes. Body pains and extreme fatigue resulted. Doctors believed me, but seemed doubtful it was the cause of my muscle pains in thighs and calfs. Serious.

Hello there. Yes i take this med for heart fialure for a couple weeks now. I have noticed low back pain in left kidney area. Not too bad though but it is there. Do you have to check blood sugars on this? I was sooo sleepy the first week of taking this med but its calmed me down alot and taken away some night time aniexity. I do feel 'off' though and sometimes feel very hungry in a sense. Kind of like empty stomach but not really hungry. Strange feeling anyway. Drugs huh lol

Please let us know what your doctor says about the medication and if it is related to the back pain.
