Low Blood Sugars

I know my GP is not able to deal with this now, so I'm just looking for some advice. For about 2 weeks now, I have been continually having low blood sugar levels. I do have an ongoing bladder infection, which I have had 3 courses of antibiotics for and still not cured. I have managed to lose 3 stone 8 pounds since last September. However, I still have 6 stones to lose, but just wondering if my medication may need to be adjusted because of weight loss. I am on 2 Metformin a day. I am a Type 2. Obviously, I will consult my GP when he is available. I'm just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you.

Well done on your weight loss, it’s a good idea to try to speak to your GP or diabetes specialist nurse if you can to ask for some advice. Metformin shouldn’t be making you hypo so don’t change any medication without a healthcare professional’s advice first.

Thank you.I won’t alter my meds without speaking to GP ,but I was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem

I think it’s probably linked to the infection. Have you read the DRWF Managing Diabetes When You Are Ill drwf.org.uk/understanding-d... this is a really useful guide.

Thank you.Yes I have read it.It does seem to talk more about high blood sugar levels with infection .But I do remember my GP did say something to me after previous bladder infection that infection can cause low blood sugars as well.My sugar levels are normally very good, just feel so rubbish between my bladder infection (3 courses of antibiotics later, still not gone) and constant low sugars, feeling sick and shaky all the time .Thank you for advice.

Keep your fluid intake up and rest when you feel poorly
