Hi all, Not sure if I'm in the right spot, but here goes. I'm a 26 year old female, no health problems that I know of. I went in for a routine shot (HPV shot #2 of 3). While in the waiting room I consumed a vanilla latte and a sugar cookie. I had no idea that the doctor had also ordered a blood test for me that day. The office called and said that my blood sugar was high, but did not give me a number of what that was. Of course my doctor is on vacation until next week. Can I have a false reading because of what I ate/drank immediately prior to that blood test?

I guess I should add that I weigh about 110 lbs and I'm 5'10 - so I'm very thin - I do not think that I have type 2. There is also no family history of diabetes in my family. Does one non fasting blood test indicate diabetes?

Yes, it is very much possible to have high blood sugar reading after consuming sugary snacks. Do not worry. You should ask for the blood sugar number. Diabetes is not diagnosed just by one random blood sugar test.
If they are considering your blood sugar number as fasting blood sugar, then that would indicate false high because you had ingested snacks before the test.
