Hi all :- after being told i had diabetes (2) my nurse told me that because i was on so much medication for other ailments that medication was pointless but no real help was forthcoming as to how to progress and try to keep systems to a minimum, any help that you could give would be great as at the moment I just feel in limbo.

I am surprised at the advice you have been given. I too am on a variety of medications (including statins and high blood pressure medications) but also on metformin, the most common drug used to control diabetes. I think you should revisit this with your GP rather than the nurse.
Food intake control and regular exercise can help with the three blood test numbers, BP, blood glucose and blood cholesterol. May be slow process, my journey started 4 year ago and I am not on any medication. Sis monthly blood test and monitoring the numbers.
Hello Andy - This is a great concern. Can I offer this advice to you. Have a sit down face to face with your pharmacist. Bring all of your medicines and go over what you are taking. They are excellent in this position and believe it or not, under utilised in an important situation like yours. They have the expertise and can make suggestions to improve you situation. Sometimes some meds cancel out others or fix some problems but side effects can occur. A good 15 min or half hour can make a great difference in your future life by making time to consult a pharmacist. Start there and then go into alternatives in diabetes meds if necessary. Good luck and hope you find a direction after that consultation.
