first steps to alcohol free

Hi to all

New here and decided I want to stop drinking forever. It has been years of alcohol consumption and to be honest I’m fed up with it. I’m overweight, tired and downright miserable thinking I’m a failure. I am scared though as I don’t want to fail again in my attempt at sobriety, the longest I’ve been without alcohol was two weeks and that was only because I was on antibiotics.

I would love to here from anyone that has been in my predicament and has successfully gone on to be alcohol free.

Thank you so much

I’ve been where you are. For me it was a “jumping off” place. It was my bottom. I realized I was powerless over alcohol and my life had become unmanageable.

I was a black out drinker, who would fight with cops and end up in strange beds. But it’s not what happens when I drank (or how often), but what alcohol does to me when I do. I couldn’t put more than two weeks together on my own. With treatment through Alcoholics Anonymous I now have 45 years drink free. A day at a time.

It works if you work it.

Keep posting your progress on here so we can support you. You’re not alone. Nor can you do it by yourself without help.

Welcome to the forum. One can determine whether he has a problem or not, when one starts to either moderate or stay stopped. If he has trouble doing either, then he probably an alcoholic. If you are an alcoholic, then the only solution is to have a spiritual awakening. One of the vehicle’s is AA. If you need more info on the 12 steps there are some members including myself here who can help.
