I get that it's an entertainment show, but I watched with interest and it made me think a bit as I got sober (and it's quite funny). Do you think it just trivialises addiction, or that it's shallow, or did you enjoy it, feel seen even?
What do people think of Loudermilk?: I get that... - Drink Free
What do people think of Loudermilk?
I saw couple of episodes after i saw the post. I feel its a fare representation of how alcoholics/additics mind works especially early in their sobriety and lack of knowledge of what they are up against. The 2nd episode I watched they picturize a father visiting the daughters office party and gets enticed. He orders vodka and goes to the restroom and calls his sponsor (A wrong idea propogated in the rooms of AA: Call your sponsor before the first drink and not after), and the sponsor is with is GF and ignores to pick up, and the protagonist ends up drinking that and several after and ends up in a pile of vomit. See the book does not carry these statements. It clearly states that for an alcoholic the defense must come from his higher power. He must work the 12 steps and establish his relationship with his higher power. That aside, there are some serious recovery in the rooms of AA and other sister fellowship. Perhaps just to get a laugh out of situations they depicted just the dark side of people in recovery.
I did laugh along but didn't really relate to the characters much, but did enjoy. I loved ' The Dry' ITVX absolutely realistic and heart-rending but funny in places. I watched the first season and look forward to the next which has just been released.
I loved that show!
I love the show. He cuts through the BS and says things as they are, not even sparing himself.
only just seen this post and recently watched it. I think he’s straight shooting and that’s what some people need! The taste of the harsh reality. The first episode with the girl is great. He’s sent there by her mother to help her daughter, daughter gives him the rebellious teenager act and he says alright fine, fuck you 🤣 the reverse psychology is brilliant. He doesn’t have to go and seek her out, possibly putting himself in danger however he does.
