Day 4

I’m on day 4 and actually slept through last night - fantastic! Depression has hit me big time this morning and I’m struggling. The reason I stopped drinking is because it made me depressed. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you

Yes,alcohol is a depressant and can exacerbate depression. Some people drink because they’re depressed, so it’s a vicious circle. Some people become depressed because they stop drinking. Therapy is usually recommended to help with the depression if it becomes or stays a problem. Some people go through a grieving process because they stop. It’s an individual experience. What you don’t want to do is drink again because you’re depressed. Some people need help with the alcohol problem as well as therapy. I had to have both and I’m grateful for it.

Like Isinatra said, alcohol is a depressant. And drinking because I’m depressed is dangerous.

When I stopped drinking my emotions went on a roller coaster ride. I wasn’t numbing them anymore. Try to have patience with yourself. The detox process is difficult but ultimately worth it.

Quite common phenomenon. Talk to your doctor if need any prescription drug. You can also look at the 12 steps of AA since it could be result of untreated alcoholism.

Thanks. I’m also dealing with new health problems so I’m missing my previous healthy life. I’m definitely not going back to the wine!
