Generic Medicines for Diabetes are most economical

Do you know that Govt. of India has initiated a new scheme (see details at janaushadhi.gov.in) for manufacture and sale of generic medicines for diabetes (and many others). These are manufactured by top companies and sold at a very cheap price in govt. owned medicine shops. The rates are as following:

a. Metformin Hydrochlorides :Rs.7.72 per strip of 10 tablets of 1000 mg., Rs.6.03 per strip of 10 tablets of 500 mg.

b. Glimperide :Rs.11.81 per strip of 10 tablets of 2 mg., Rs.7.87 per strip of 10 tablets of 1 mg.

c. Glibenclamide: Rs. 1.38, 2.03, 2.68 and 3.96 per strip of 10 of 1.25, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 mg. respectively

However these are not available in formulations and also in sustained release type.

I have been using these and found them as good as branded ones.

As shown on website (janaushadhi.gov.in), there are no outlets in Maharashtra and Karnataka. However you can check from their helpline 18001808080.

I am staying in Mangalore, karnataka state. I am diabitic patient. where can I get Gereric medicine in Mangalore. I am taking glycipage 500 thrice a day. and also I am taking zylos H. and Ecosprin AV 75 for my Blood Pressure. Please advice
