How to reverse my type 2 diabetes?

Hello all,

I've posted before here. I am 26 male with type 2 diabtetes. The reasons for my diabetes are

* Obesity

* Hereditary

* Too much carb consumption - Indian food

* Lack of physical activities.

I am on medications like Amaryl and Janumet and they are causing me too many side effects. I walk like 10,000 steps a day but still don't see any visible improvements. How can I reverse my type 2 diabetes?

Has anyone here tried sugar.fit a product of cult.fit where they claim they can reverse type 2 diabetes. Any suggestions? Their program is expensive though.

Hi secretsubject ,

Has your doctor suggested carb. counting? Go on a low carb. high protein diet?

Please consult your doctor before you change your diet/medication/exercise routine to be on the safe side so you don’t get hurt/sick.

secretsubject ,

Unfortunately, it is not easy to tame T2D. it is a time taking process. Please be patient. It took me three years to reduce my HbA1c from 14+ to 5.9. It is not easy to maintain in this range as well. It requires a lifestyle change. Physical activity is just 10-20% of the entire ballgame. 80% is diet/food and stress-free life.

Disclaimer: I am not a medical doctor.

I can only share my thoughts, and more of my experience, it might fit many, and you might too.

----------------

i wrote somewhere about my experience earlier don't remember where. anyway, i STRONGLY believe in non-medication recovery of DM-T2D, as long as the affected person is 'determined' (period).

when i was diagnosed T2D, in around 2017 the HbA1c is 10+ something.

As of December 29, 2023, the current reading of HbA1c stands at 5.8%. Over time, this percentage has fluctuated; I recall it being at 6.9%, then 6.1%, followed by 6.2%, and 5.7% before settling at its present level of 5.8%. Throughout these years, I experienced a variety of side effects resulting from a potent dosage prescribed by a doctor in India. These side effects included nerve tingling, trembling toes, and disrupted sleep, which often left me restless during many nights. Subsequently, a doctor in Australia identified that the combination of Metformin and Glimperide was causing these adverse effects unnecessarily. Simplifying the prescription to just Metformin alleviated all these side effects. Additionally, my B12 levels were adversely affected by Glimperide, and they recovered once I switched solely to Metformin.

Concurrently, although I have always been against extensive medication, I began regulating my diet by increasing fiber intake and attempting calorie counting. However, I found it challenging to sustain this regimen. For the past 7-8 months, I have abandoned strict calorie counting and instead focused on the quality of my food. I prioritize uncooked or high-fiber meals. Given my predominantly sedentary lifestyle, my food intake has naturally reduced. By solely concentrating on my food choices, results have followed suit.

For the last 5 months, my daily routine involves having breakfast, mostly consisting of idlies made with whole black grains (although less frequently, as it's challenging to enforce this on other family members). For lunch, I consume a specified amount of brown rice, known as 'Dampudu biyyam' in Telugu, which is minimally polished rice. In the evenings for dinner, I only consume fruits such as guava, papaya, or oranges, and I conclude my fruit intake by 6 PM. Occasionally, if I feel hungry later, I might snack on more fruits, albeit rarely. By adhering to this dietary pattern, my HbA1c now measures at 5.8%, with a fasting blood sugar level of 101 (as of December 29, 2023).

During those periods mentioned earlier, I took Metformin intermittently; some days I did not take it at all. Whether I supplemented with Metformin or not depended solely on my personal decision, influenced by what I had eaten on that particular day. I didn't consult the doctor about this choice. However, when the topic arose during doctor visits, I disclosed my approach to medication. Fortunately, the doctor was supportive of my efforts to manage Type 2 Diabetes primarily through diet. While acknowledging my decision, the doctor advised caution and backed my commitment to combatting T2D through dietary measures.

Note: If I were to replace my breakfast with whole plant-based items, such as fruits, my HbA1c would likely improve even further.

Additionally, I have incorporated cucumber juice, ash gourd juice, and bottle gourd juice into my routine, (taking on an empty stomach early morning) rotating each one weekly for the past four months. This regimen has had a notably positive impact on my overall health.
