Dr B.K. Roy is an Endocrinologist and a Senior consultant at a leading Hospital. Perhaps he is among very few specialists who takes out time for Diabetic education through social media as a part of his social responsibility.
He quite often comes out with a relevant topic on diabetes which could be educational and informative to Type 2 Diabetics....
He perhaps is among very few doctors who have clearly distinguished between obese T2 and thin T2.
In a recent YouTube video, he has discussed two options to cure type 2 DM. According to him:
(1) If you are obese T2, Good news for you...you can cure your T2 if you reduce your weight through diet and exercise and sustain it, you have done it...even medication can be avoided...
(2) If you are thin type 2, you can not reduce your weight further. .apart from diet and exercise you need to be on medication to manage your conditions...
If one is an Obese type 2 with very high level of blood Insulin levels and he is at an early stage of Type-2, I tend to agree with the Endochrinologist...
One can reduce his weight with the help of a combination of Diet -IDM/ IF, Exercise..... There are many such Obese T2 members in this forum who seem to have successfully treated their conditions with this strategy without medication....basically they were able to control their IR and enhance their insulin sensitivity..
However, if the Obese T2 does not reduce his weight / does not control his blood sugar and in turn continues with strong IR for a prolonged period, It can lead to gradual impairment of beta cells...
and eventually they could land up in a state where they would need Insulin secretagogues/exogeneous Insulin..
The story for thin type 2 is different...
They already have very low level of blood insulin.....Beta cells partially impaired...they are already thin ... No muscles to lose... For these kind of people , there seems to be no other way except resort to oral insulin secretagogues, though the dosage can be minimised by a proper diet and exercise...
This is what the endo is trying to tell people in the video...
I have 2 of my very good mates who are now OFF there T2 meds. Inc one who was on insulin. Both were strong willed & positive people. T1 & t2 are different.
When you compare the advice you received and the doctor in the video clip, is there anything different?
There are many new information with new technology! In the early days people jut took the medication given, today we question the medication and the food we eat.
There is a head line news in the copy of the mail. Developed country like UK is unable to control type 2, modern living!
the difference was my physician was wise and grounded although only an old LIM,but the person you referred is an informant with lots of unnecessary jorgans.
