My sugar level at 3 am was 176 mg/dl (9.8 mmol/L).However my FBS was 101 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/L)

Is it due to DAWN PHENOMENON

The dawn phenomenon, sometimes called the dawn effect, is an observed increase in blood sugar (glucose) levels that takes place in the early-morning, often between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.

Go for a continues glucose monitor, a patch and date on the mobile phone with a graph.

This can be expensive. OR take your morning blood test at a later time say 8 or 9 AM.

You need to give at least 14 to 16 hours between evening meal and breakfast to get good blood glucose control!!

klgksharma ,The above numbers suggest that dawn phenomenon might not be the culprit here. FBS is in good range which indicates that your body is able to produce good effective insulin which helps in your body cells to absorb.

in facts its normal situation, dawn phenomenon would be in reverse case where your morning numbers are higher than midnight numbers.

Nothing to worry as long as Your fasting blood sugar & your Hba1c are in normal rage.. However, you must also keep a close watch on other diabetic related parameters. we tend to ignore other important Parameters which could lead to complications at a later date !

How is your lipid profile ?

C-peptide, hsCRP ??

Sugar level around 3AM your value is normal Also Your FBS which is lower is also normal. This doesn’t indicate Dawn Syndrome
