I am a DM Type II patient for the last 20 years. I am monitoring the glucose levels with the glucometers available with me. The brands are 1. ABBOT & 2. Johnson & Johnson

Now I have Ramzan fast. I takes 12 units of Novomix 30 insulin with the breakfast early in the morning at 4.30 AM.

During the last 2 days I became hypoglycaemic at about 10.30 AM Then I checked the glucose level with both meters shows 43 and 51 mg. after waited for a while again I tested it shows 51 and 59 and at 5PM on the same day it showed 80 and 89 mg . Yesterday this phenomenan happened again. Please note I was on fasting all these times. Can anybody especially doctors explain why is it so?

Because of lock down, you are unable to go to a doctor, please telephone a doctor.

Doctors may not be available here to help you.

During you fasting you may need to adjust your dosage because of eating times at night and glucose level as your results shows.

You can read some information here on this link:

Hypoglycemia occurs when blood glucose levels fall below 4 mmol/L (72mg/dL).

You need to watch your morning blood test levels!!!

Take care.

"WHAT IS HYPERGLYCEMIA?

Hyperglycemia, the term for expressing high blood sugar, has been defined by the World Health Organisation as:

Blood glucose levels greater than 7.0 mmol/L (126 mg/dl) when fasting

Blood glucose levels greater than 11.0 mmol/L (200 mg/dl) 2 hours after meals

Although blood sugar levels exceeding 7 mmol/L for extended periods of time can start to cause damage to internal organs, symptoms may not develop until blood glucose levels exceed 11 mmol/L

WHAT CAUSES HYPERGLYCEMIA?

The underlying cause of hyperglycemia will usually be from loss of insulin producing cells in the pancreas or if the body develops resistance to insulin.

More immediate reasons for hyperglycemia include:

Missing a dose of diabetic medication, tablets or insulin

Eating more carbohydrates than your body and/or medication can manage. "

You can or may look at increasing you carb intake for your breakfast during your fasting!

Take care.

Hypoglycemia is more dangerous than Hyperglycemia..

I have seen people collapsing at the sugar level you have mentioned.....

A diabetic person is not supposed to be doing whole day fasting...

Please do consult your medical practitioner...for advice and appropriate action....

Novomix 30 Flexpen 100IU/ml is a combination of two medicines used to improve blood sugar control in people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a fast-acting type of insulin that helps to lower blood sugar levels after meals and reduce the chances of developing serious complications of diabetes.

Blood sugar level less than 72mg/dL is considered as low and may cause symptoms of hypoglycemia.

You should reduce the dose of insulin during fasting in consultation with your doctor.
