juice of bottle guard

Just now I heard that a 42 year old engineer died after drinking the juice of bottle guard . She died with in half an hour after drinking the juice . It seems that bottle guard was bitter .

Hello Hidden it's the toxin cucurbitacin which gives bottle guard the bitter taste if is not fresh. There is no antidote for cucurbitacin poisoning which can cause hypertension and intestinal bleeding so however healthy it is when fresh this must be borne in mind. And this must be borne in mind with all juices and herbal remedies that they are taken safely.

I never came across bitter bottle guard in my entire life , and i never had even a small doubt to test whether it was bitter . Many people are under the impression that bottle guard is very good for diabetes . Then by mistake if they take the drink of bottle guard , and if it turns out to be toxic , it is a real tragedy .

For me in UK, I can buy fresh or frozen. I like frozen as it is easy to cook in butter.

It says should test guard before juicing and drinking as it becomes poison if it is bitter
