Vitamin D deficiency among human beings all over the world is on increase. Vitamin D is critical for bone health apart from many other biological functions in the body.

Vitamin D supplements is very common nowadays across the world. Some physicians recommend Sunlight exposure while many others warn against sunlight exposure as it could cause skin cancer. However, many try to get their vitamin D from food sources such as Cod liver oil, Sea fish , Egg, etc.

A normal egg contains vitamin D up to 80 IU, which is very less.

Now scientists have discovered that the vitamin D content in eggs can be increased up to 4-5 times by exposing the chickens in UV light. UV light does not affect health of chicken . Even the chickens can be exposed to UV lamp which also results in multiplying vitamin D.

Please read on this interesting discovery !

Hi namaha, this is interesting as they have found the same with mushrooms if you leave mushrooms in the sun for up to an hour their vitamin D increases sharply.

As for the chickens it shows that free range and being allowed to run around in the sunshine is the healthiest.

Also magnesium is essential for the proper absorption of vitamin D and many people are deficient in magnesium so here's an article about magnesium and vitamin D:

So thanks for posting this as it good to understand our bodies needs. 😊

It is very interesting Mr Jerry!

Both Vitamin D & Mg complement each other inside human body. Mg definitely plays equally an important biological role inside our body and diabetes and any metabolic syndorm are associated with low level of both vitamin D and Mg.

Whiles the natural food sources of Mg are plenty starting from all seeds and nuts, plant products, banana to dairy, egg. Still I don't think we meet our daily intake of 420 mg, thanks to the industrialized agriculture , changed soil quality and our food habits of eating all refined /processed food which strips off this nutrient from the food stuff.

Unfortunately, Mg deficiency among us is underdignosed. While we do supplement Vitamin D , but Mg deficiency is neither tested for nor supplemented.

Anyway , thanks for bringing out this interesting article that throws light on these two important and critical nutrients. Nutrition is a complex subject and how our human body processes the nutrients inside this wonderful machine is still more complex which mankind is trying to decipher.

Thank you namaha, to me it shows the importance of keeping our bodies well nourished and the importance of micronutrients.

You are so right about modern farming denuding the soil of nutrients and then food processing then wipes out nutrients...

And by discussing nutrition is how we learn about it.
