Scrambled, poached or boiled, eggs are a popular breakfast food the world over. Yet the health benefits of the humble egg might not be all they're cracked up to be as new research from the University of South Australia shows that excess egg consumption can increase your risk of diabetes.
Conducted in partnership with the China Medical University, and Qatar University, the longitudinal study (1991 to 2009) is the first to assess egg consumption in a large sample of Chinese adults.
It found that people who regularly consumed one or more eggs per day (equivalent to 50 grams) increased their risk of diabetes by 60 per cent.
These researchers say excess eggs are not good. But diabetic eat good amount of eggs, being good protein and being good food for diabetes. I think, more research would be necessary as to why eggs are not that good for diabetic.Is there any harmful protein in egg ?.Actually one 50 gm Of whole egg has just about 6 gm of proteins and good amount of nutrients like calcium, phosphorus,Iron,Zink etc and Vitamins like A,E, B2 etc although yoke has little ( non harmful) dietary cholesterol but all good nutrients are in yoke only and not in white portion.
It is the Saturated Fat and Protein of eggs responsible for raising the Diabetes risk- As per research work done by Cyrus Khambatta , M.D. PH.D , An American researcher who himself is a type 1, all types of animal protein and fat responsible for exponentially increasing Insulin resistance and diabetes risk, he writes in his book "mastering diabetes".
And if you read my post where i had given links for 13 long term studies on huge population on health &diet carried out in USA, Canada, all over Europe, Sweden and Greece , which clearly point out to the health risk involved..
If eating animal protein and fats , like chicken ( or any other meat) triggers IR, then those eaters will be at risk.However in life i have seen many Non veggies to be lean and thin, and carb lovers to bulky with more IR.
My husband eats an organic free range egg daily and sometimes 2 as a part of a healthy diet. His latest diabetes results show he is in remission. I would not recommend eggs other than org/free range, but we cannot apply the same diet to everyone. People need to make up their own mind about what suits them.

We should always remember that diabetes is not only blood sugar control and HBA1c control...there are many ways and tricks one can control blood sugar ....one need to be careful about Insulin Resistance which remains dormant in diabetes and may create Health complications during course of time.
So apart from blood sugar control without any medication , we need to remain alert on all tell tale signs of Insulin resistance (1) out of range Lipid profile (2) out of Healthy BMI range (3) higher hsCRP - A sign of body inflammation which affects all organs including endothelial. (4) Blood pressure to remain within 120/80 without medication (5) disturbed sleep in the night - Sound sleep for 7-8 hours is a must.

Every body's genetic constitution is different. One size does not fit all and same is true for all the medicines and food. Whatever suits your body continue with that and discard whatever does not. Yes, and it also depends on the strength of the organs of the body and ability to discard what is not wanted. I learnt this after damage from prescribed drugs in hospital that I should never have been given and they damaged all my organs and ability to digest, absorb, assimilate and excrete!
I meant to say that it makes a difference how the egg is cooked - white set and yoke runny or not hard. Whether it is something to do with the digestion of the egg when too hard I am not sure.
Eggs, how are they produced today. When I was growing up we had chocked to produce eggs for our use, but then it came to November and December it was sold for profit. Then in the early 60's chicken factory started and cam human health problems. Today in UK we buy locally home grown eggs, good in quality.
Shops do sell free range eggs, can be expensive. How do you test the ingredients in an egg?
During my child hood we had about 20 country hens in our compound, which gave about 10-12 eggs per day.This was enough for family and we used to give surplus eggs to neighbors also. Those hens were mostly fed on whatever was available in compound area apart from we use to gave them grains like Jowar. These eggs had a great test.
I have been taking ( for last about 10 to 15 years) daily one boiled egg along with spoonfull of fresh chutney ( powder) made from flax seeds, spread on it, during a light bresk fast in the morning.Will it be alright to continue it? .. I have maintained A1c around 6.0 all these years. I also take 5/6 soaked almonds. Fresh termuric root chutny with bit of lemon, in morning BF.My carb intake in BF is about 30 gm...
Another 30 each at dinner and lunch and about 20 gm( mostly nuts, murmura , chana etc ) at mid evening tea.. or a fresh fruit. ( like A banana, an apple, pear, papai etc) ..
Pease elaborate on how to make flax seed chutney. I will like to try that for all my meals. Flax seeds have so many health benefits. Grated fresh turmeric in lemon juice is also very good. In Gujrat, people take it with every meal. It has anti-inflammtory properites.Thanks.
@ vcdc...Thanks....Take roasted flax seeds, add white roasted sesame, togather sauté in little oil with dry red chilli, little peeled garlic, cummin seeds etc .After it becomes cool, grind in mixer..Keep bottled in fridge to avoid evaporation of omega-3 oil. Make chutney which is required for a week, as it looses omega oil.Use a spoonful with every meal , as it has good fibre also.
