When the sugar numbers are high, the calories you consume are not properly utilized. When you bring down the sugar levels,it means the food you are consuming is reaching the body cells properly and hence you may gain weight to some extent.
Insulin and weight gain: Keep the pounds off. ... Weight gain is a common side effect for people who take insulin — a hormone that regulates the absorption of sugar (glucose) by cells. This can be frustrating because maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of your overall diabetes management plan. This can lead to eating an increased amount of food even when you start insulin therapy. And when you start insulin therapy and begin getting your blood sugar under control, the glucose in your body is absorbed and stored.
Main reason of weight gain is high level of insulin which promotes storage of excess energy as fat. High level of insulin can be internal/external or both. Excess consumption of dietary carbohydrate ( simple or complex) also contributes to this. Carbohydrate raises blood sugar maximum requiring higher dose of insulin. In order to lose fat, we have to reduce the level of insulin. Reducing the amount of dietary carbohydrate has been found to be very effective with many people. However, effectiveness will differ from person to person depending on the conditions of pancreas and insulin sensitivity.
Review your diet and try to reduce carb, if possible.
Obviously your total calorie intake is uncontrolledand you are going by your appetite due to the false confidence that your insulin will take care of it. Measure the food going inside you. That is the clue.
Insulin dosage is calculated to compensate your carb intake from the information you give to the doctor or nurse. If you alter the carb intake then there is a problem!
Keeping a balance is very important and to control of al what goes into your mouth!
