Hi I have been taking berberine for a year now together with Chromium, Low carb diet, and my It did bring my A1C down to 5.6 from 8.8. I do not know if the berberine alone would have done it or not, but it cannot hurt. I never took metformin or any other medications

What are the unit of measurement for 8.8 and 5.6? Is this from a home testing machine?

in reply to sandybrown

This is at the doctor's lab office. I only know the American numbers, do not know how to explain it, but one is full blown Diabetes( I guess glucose of around 220) the other is is Pre diabetes(122)

Berberine – A Powerful Supplement With Many Benefits

Healthline and our partners may receive a portion of revenues if you make a purchase using a link on this page.

A compound called berberine is one of the most effective natural supplements available.

It has very impressive health benefits, and affects your body at the molecular level.

Berberine has been shown to lower blood sugar, cause weight loss and improve heart health, to name a few.

It is one of the few supplements shown to be as effective as a pharmaceutical drug.

This is a detailed review of berberine and its health effects.

What Is Berberine?

Berberine is a bioactive compound that can be extracted from several different plants, including a group of shrubs called Berberis (1).

Technically, it belongs to a class of compounds called alkaloids. It has a yellow color, and has often been used as a dye.

Berberine has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine, where it was used to treat various ailments.

Is berberine taken before meals or after?

I would take berberine after meals. Why take it on an empty stomach.

Berberine is an active ingredient of our Indian Daru haldi. Taking Diabecon DS tablet twice a day before meals if more effective than taking just a single ingredient because Diabecon DS tablet contains 33 herbal ingredients in one single formulation. It is Himalaya Herbals product. I take it and it makes a large difference. See the ingredients list at below link.

I am a type 2 diabetic since 2008 , will Diabecon DS help at this stage? iS Berberine available in india?

in reply to Stuthi

You can order on amazon.in, yes it's supposed to help lower blood sugar levels. So do so many other herbs- turmeric, cinnamon, ashwagandha, gymnema sylvestre, all berries specially blackberries etc. But nothing will help unless we go through lifestyle and diet modification.

Does Diabecon DS contain berberine? Some sites say it does, but some sites list all ingredients without mentioning berberine. But you notice a big difference when taking it? I'm interested as I have been considering taking it (not diabetic but pre-diabetic and don't want to take Metformin).

You can take Diabecon one morning and one evening. Yes, it contains berberine

in reply to Ashka9

Have you tried it? Is it effective?

Ashka9 profile image
Ashka9 in reply to

Yes, I am taking it since many years and I confirmed by stopping it for 10 days or so and checked my blood sugar which was sky high and when I started again, the blood sugar came down effectively low

in reply to Ashka9

Thanks! I like the fact that it contains 30 different herbs so synergistic effects. Also inexpensive compared to many other supplements.

Curious: is it the same as Glucocare by the same company?

Ashka9 in reply to

No, it's not same. Himalaya Herbals is the best brand because it does clinical trials and studies also on it's medicines. Clinical trials also have been done with Diabecon.

Thanks a lot for your input and valuable info!

Only Diabecon tablet is not enough to reduce high blood sugar levels if you have full diabetes. It just helps by keeping it lower than if you take Metformin or any other drug. So, an Ayurvedic medicine help as an additional help to keep sugar levels under control.

Take both, Ayurvedic Medicine Diabecon & allopathic medicine you take together
