Type 1 is when the beta cells of Pancreas are totally destroyed such that the pancreas is not able to produce insulin at all. Normally it could be due to hereditary and the person gets affected right from the birth. The T1 can only control his blood sugar by insulin injectables , may be combined with some medicines.

Type 2 is when the pancreas is not able to produce adequate insulin and /or the body cells are not able to utilise blood sugar effectively (which is also called insulin resistance) . Type 2 can attack any one at any point of time with poor life style and poor dietary habits , though hereditary also plays a role.

T2 eventually could get converted in to T1 if proper lifestyle, proper diet is not followed. Some modern medicines used to whip the pancreas for producing insulin to control blood sugar ultimately destroys beta cells in the pancreas of a type 2.
