I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 3 days back... My doctor prescribed me istamet 50/500 two times a day....I had been told that the medicine prescribed is a high dose and a newly diagnosed patient doesn't require a high dose medicine.

It depends how severe your diabetes is when it was diagnosed.There also several other factors that the doctor might have taken into account before deciding the dosage.If you are still in doubt,go for a second opinion.In any case do not change medicines without medical advise.
First day when I checked randomly I got 270 and next day I checked fasting in da morning I got 221 this was when I was diagnosed .
A1c is 12.2% and average sugar level is 303
A1c of 12.2 is extremely high.
You must make quick changes in your diet / food habits / exercise habits immediately else Diabetes can have severe effects on Eyes, hands, legs and several organs of the body.
Consider this as an EMERGENCY.
Medicine given by Doctor must be correct as per your sugar levels.
1. Please do not listen to quacks, neighbours, hakeems, relatives. Trust your doctor.
2. Stop eating simple carbs like white rice, maida, atta, bread, burger, piazza, bun, biscuits
3. START taking brown rice, or hand pound rice, multigrain atta mixed with raagi or jowar.
4. Completely eliminate all fruit juices, coke, sweets, mithai, chocolates.
5. If you are overweight, then bring down your weight by 2 kgs every month till you reach your ideal weight.
6. Eat not more than 5 teaspoon of oil per day and not more than 3 teaspoon of sugar.
7. Cut down all fried foods, pakodas, biryanis, kababs, samosas, chips etc.
8. Go for 30 mins walk everyday. Walk for 10 mins after each meal.
9. Have veg salad with each meal including breakfast.
10. Get your Blood sugar measured every week.
