Did your doctor say it was okay to start/change the diet?

watch out for such a diet leading to fatty liver with its own sequelae in the long run.

coconut oil itself has saturated fat and is high in bad cholesterol

Read below for the consequences of consuming virgin coconut oil- significant increase in good cholesterol HDL and no change in LDL, the so called bad cholesterol.

Is it worthwhile landing in a condition as problematic to handle as DM in your effort to lower the sugar

in reply tornpath

I have been insisting that diabetes is not a disease and a diabetic should not go for the high fat content in the diet and all the medicines prescribed by the doctors . A control on portions , an eye on nutrition , a little effort on the physical exercise and pranayama is all that is needed . Whether it is coconut oil or olive oil or any other oil or even butter or cheese ,too much of any thing leads to a problem sooner or later depending upon the resistance power of the individual . If what all they say about coconut oil is so good there should not be a single case of diabetes in Kerala . Lowering of sugar is very important but not at the cost of other problems like high range of tryglycerids . The truth would definitely come out in the open on any day . But right now the damage is getting done by asking people to take 70% of food in fats . Fats are fats whether good or bad . In the long run both are bad .

LCHF is the key to stay healthy in diabetes. Otherwise be ready for more and more health disorders due to high carb diet.

I brought down my Hba1c from 14 to 5.3 following LCHF diet.

in reply toIndian1990

Bringing Hba1c level down is not the only criteria . Whether it could be maintained life long with out any other harmful effects is the issue . One fine morning those intellectuals would say that Hba1c can be up to 9 /10 or it should be only 3 /2 . All these ranges are getting changed every other day . In the bargain one should not end up with some incurable disease .

My last 18 months Hba1cs are below 6 .. all the parameters are at normal level. No nutrition deficiency. I do all the tests including Hba1c every 3 months.

Again it is not a disease but a disorder .. and following LCHF diet is one of the best option to keep blood sugar in control.

Let's talk about data points. Speaking something on the fly is not going to help.

Thanks for writing, what you suggested is absolutely right. The point comes to whether coconut oil is safe to use for longer time or not. What I suggest is to follow vrk diet available in you tube, coconut oil about 100 GMs daily is to be used for 4 months only to bring down the hba1c to normalcy, after that low carbs food is to be followed like millets and others.

in reply torams1803

Many presentations on you tube are made by over enthusiastic people who want to make money through their videos and we are getting confused rather confounded by their reports . There are exceptions of course . VRK is really in to the campaign with out any profit motive but what about the quality of the ingredients . Once the importance of vegetables like cabbage ,, cauliflower , keera etc got emphasised the produce got over burdened with more and more chemicals and pesticides for better yield and more profits . The toxic compounds are far beyond the safe levels , a fact which got revealed in a survey conducted by the authorities in AP . The coconut trees are getting injected with Metacid .

Low carb diet with nuts , fruits , vegetables , millets and other whole grains it self brings down Hba1c (with portion controls) in 6 months .

Detoxification & rejuvenation of the cells help in curing autoimmune diseases . That does not happen with feeding of extra fats obtained from the meat , fish , and dairy which all have compounds of antibiotics , steroids , Oxytocins etc . since we are helpless and we have to eat something to survive , we can't totally avoid them . But with that constraint we can't and should n't go too far as much as 70% of the diet in fats . If diabetes is a life style disorder , BIpolar is a psychiatric disorder which is characterised by mood disorders of extreme depression and uncontrollable manic aggression and is being treated with mood stabilisers and antipsychotics . But the condition is also related to gut and what we eat . So nutrient food filled with lots of fibers , vitamins , minerals , green vegetables , fruits , whole grains , good whole some dairy products can cure that . The gut flora is helped by probiotics. so whole some food with portion limits is the answer . It is not speaking on the fly but a hundred percent verifiable fact . If the only criteria is the reduction of sugar levels , that is ok , if one wants to try for that by all means . For the kind information of many scholars here , the lab reports are also not dependable because they are engineered documents many times . I wonder as to why all these specialists are not making any effort in cleaning the whole system of health by contributing to the need and awareness of the food produce whether it is agricultural produce or meat or diary products or sea food be totally safe . It is not possible by one or few individuals . It should be done on war footing by all the countries and all people belonging to various fields .Like how they did in the past coining slogans like green revolution , white revolution etc . This revolution is life revolution .

N o confusions . people who want to go by their concepts , can by all means go that way and take 70% of the diet in the form of fats . Let them face the consequences in other 10 years in the form of autoimmune diseases . But even if one person escapes that fate I feel happy thinking that I have discharged my social responsibility . Time and again I have been reiterating the fact that portion controls help in reducing HbA1c . Millets and whole grains give the feeling of satiation with lesser food and also makes one to be non hungry for more time . I am not in the trade of dates , bananas , whole grains , millets , honey etc , which I always request people to take in limited quantities and reduce the quantities in other items. One gram of carb or protein gives 4 calories where as one gram of fat gives 9 calories nearly double . Where does all the extra caloric consumption go . If it comes to the question of energy , satiety , taste ,health benefits ,reduction of weight all which is promised by extra fat up to 70 % , whole grain food with all the above listed ingredients gives . The whole grains and millets make one to take half of what they take in the form of wheat or rice , as they are slow to digest and take longer time to create yearnings and cravings for food .What the cancer institute recommended 10 years back does not hold good now . In all probability they might have revised their recommendations . who knows ? First of all the very concept of HbA1c is wrong in deciding the state of insulin resistance . It does not represent the absolute and correct state of affairs .

The most beautiful part is they themselves do not adhere to what they say .

For the doctors , one patient cured means one income generating source lost .They think that the investment they put in terms of money and efforts should come back to them in millions , if not billions . They are entering in to the profession not for service with humanitarian out look . Gone are the days of ''vaidya Narayano Hari hi''
