Type 1 DM with Celiac Disease
Hi and welcome to the group, athanikp .
I’m a type 1 diabetic who has been on a gluten free diet since I have a wheat/gluten intolerance. Doctors refused to do any tests for CD, but I feel better when I’m not eating anything with gluten in it.
My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with T1 DM after a serious event of DKA about 4 months back. Recent regular blood test showed a TTA IgA at 62.2 AU/ml. A repeat of the test gave a result of 621 RU/ml. A biopsy is now advised to confirm CD. What do the TTA results mean ? Has CD affected the intestines badly to give such high results ?
I’m not sure about the test results, but the doctor may have to see your daughter for more explanations for the numbers. Have you checked out the Gluten Free Guerrillas group on HU? Go to and follow the group at: healthunlocked.com/glutenfr...
I hope this helps you.😀
Why not think of a practical approach? Stop wheat and see how it works.
I’ve been grainfree for more than the last 1&1/2 years and my abd problems have disappeared. That's the experience with many here. Also, stopping wheat reduces pot belly.
Keep us informed.
Good luck.
