Doctors do prescribe medication and advise you to keep A1c level at a low level,but in my experience advancing age nullifies all your efforts.Burning sensation in the feet becomes so unbearable that one will be deprived of sleep.I apply Diafoot (it is branded product and as far as I know there is no comparable product in Indian market) cream on the feet and get good relief.
Once developed, not much can be done. Goal is always to prevent oneself from getting it. Symptomatic treatment is all you can do, while keeping sugar levels under control to not allow it to worsen further.

You have hypertension. Get your cholesterol test done. Maybe your legs are not getting enough blood or getting interrupted supply. Get your BP in normal range first then try other options.
