I recently got my blood checked. My fasting blood sugar was 128 and PP was 116. This is my first test and I'm confused about this. More I read up, I don't see a case where PP was less than FBS. Could someone please advise?
PPBS lesser than FBS: I recently got my blood... - Diabetes India
PPBS lesser than FBS
It depends on what you have eaten before giving second sample and what you did during 90 minutes interval. If you have eaten low glycemic index food for breakfast, sugar level will not spike. Please indicate what you had for breakfast and how much. Also, please indicate if you were involved in any physical activity before giving the first sample i.e fasting sample.
I had two idlis+ 1 vada from a karnataka-style food center, so it was submerged in sambar(which contains a little bit of jaggery). No physical activity before giving the fasting sample. Woke up and got ready and gave the test . And I drove back in traffic and had food and had a nap and gave the second sample exactly 2 hours later. Now that you asked the question, i remember napping. so It might have changed the sugar levels?
Are you a type 1, 1.5 (LADA) or 2? What does your doctor want your numbers to be between (100-200)? Everyone is different and so is diabetes along with how it's managed.
Thank you Concerned . I'm already implementing life style changes after the scare this report gave. Hope to see better results in the next tests.
Hi avinashs ,
Welcome to the group. First of all, stop worrying. It is good that you could discover this metabolic disorder at a very initial stage. It should be possible for you to control this by some dietary changes and physical activities.
What you have observed - PP lower than fasting is not unusual. Several members in this group including me have similar trends.
Your fasting blood glucose is slightly above the officially diabetic number which is 126. For non-diabetic it should be < 100, though we believe one should keep it 90 or so.
Why is PP lower than fasting?
When you take carb-rich meal like the one you took, blood sugar spikes very high in a short period of time. For example, if you would have monitored the blood sugar at 45-60 minutes, you may have captured high peak.Following that there is excess insulin produced that reduces the blood sugar to low value. Some people, with carb-rich meal spike to 225 from 105 in an hour and at 2 hrs it comes down to even 70. You should not be much worried about this behaviour.
Why does first peak goes high?
That is down to impaired response to glucose. In non-diabetic person, this phenomena is absent because their fist stage glucose response is alive and kicking. The first stage response is taken care of by the stored insulin in the beta cells, because it takes a while to make and release new insulin. Some of us are not having enough stored insulin to take care of blood sugar rise in the beginning.
Now what should you be doing?
You should review your diet and avoid/reduce carbohydrate intake. Lose weight if overweight. Do some regular physical activities like walking.
Hi, I had same problem in the beginning. Though my sugar levels were way too high! (424 fasting). With diet modification my blood sugar levels came down still fasting was always around 116 and pp would be mostly below that.. I then after reading posts here decided to take care of my liver. That solved my problem.
Thank you Vinn1. Could you please let me know what you did to take care of liver?
Yes. To begin with, I switched to healthy fats. Started using coconut oil or sesame oil for cooking. Also walnuts, few almonds, flax seeds. I also started Liv52 but then shifted to milk thistle. Results were visible soon.
avinash, don't worry. Like all of us you are also suffering from the problem of Toxins. But in your case it seems to be in your Liver. Take a glass of White Radish leaves juice daily for three weeks . Also reduce consumption of rice and wheat by 20 %. Replace all vegetable oil with Organic cold pressed Virgin Coconut Oil. Have a lot of Sun shine. And test after three weeks , you will have a positive result. Enjoy a healthy life. God bless you.
You need to check your HbA1C.
If HbA1C is normal, Only fasting blood sugar more than 126 is Impaired glucose tolerance...This is prediabetes... Life style modification will help you..
For me also it happens sometimes . 500gm metformin has solved issue temporarily as advised by my doctor .My hba1c is 5 and PPBS < 140 , Fasting sugar varies between 100 to 115 .Dawn effect as mentioned by one member could also be one of the reason . To be certain one needs to measure at 2am which is difficult . Avoiding high fat meal for heart reason(refer saaol.com youtube video) . Low carb is not an option for me right now
okay.. thanks for sharing ..your levels seems like it cannot be managed wihtout medication..based on the reading that i did.. i will check out saaol.com video.
Are you sure? Logically fasting 100-115 and ppbs <140 can not have HbA1c of 5, why? Because 5 equals average bs of 97 around the clock for the whole 3 months, the make sense number is 6, that is average 126 for the last 3 months
Dawn phenomenon. Get a1c done. Also gtt preferably with s insulin levels.
Higher fasting sugar is sometimes observed. You need to check HbA1c and regulate your diet. Besides this go for a regular brisk walk everyday for about 40 minutes which will immensely benefit you. You need to check your FBPS and PPBS again and at regular intervals thereafter. There is no need to worry but you have to be careful
Hope you have taken medication during breakfast. If yes the dosage played the may be reviewed
