Reduce food to half means how many total calories we diabetics should have in general? Doctor said me to take only 1000-1200 calories a day which is very less for me...moreover we will always feel hungry if we do not eat sufficient during a meal. I do not like to eat frequently instead eating 3 meals a day is perfect with skipping dinner half of the days. But I eat atleast take 1600-1800 calories a day. I take thryoid medication too so if I eat too less, my body will start trembling.

I do not agree with stopping allopathic medicines completely. Metformin is a safe drug and very effective in diabetes. It even reduces hunger thereby reducing weight.

Emmer wheat which we call Bhallia wheat in Gujarati is almost same as spelt. Long wheat is always better in quality. Spelt is nothing but one type of wheat

With age, efficiency of body & organs decreases & hence absorption of micronutrients like vitamins & minerals also decrease. So no matter how nutritious food you eat, you will have deficiency of vitamin & minerals with age which you need to supply with supplements

Well, it is your wish to believe or not believe, but it is true that with age, absorption of nutrients from food decreases particularly when one have a disease and in diabetes, I am sure of it. Women particularly after menopause gets lot of deficiencies specially iron and calcium. My doctor friend herself takes calcium and multivitamin regularly and ofcourse doctor knows better than us. After the age of 45-50, supplements are a must if blood levels show deficiencies. Vitamin D deficiency is also common in all.

Previous generations may not have access to today's specialist doctors, but they used to consult Ayurvedic Practitioners and many herbal medicines are used to supplement with various minerals like iron or calcium. My mom was taking iron and B12 injections so I know. My mom is Ayurvedic doctor herself.

Reason of deficiency can be anything...according to you, it may be pollution or soil depletion. ...but according to me...we use our body since all these years for digestion and assimilation of food which requires so much energy...our body works hard and we keep on eating multiple times a day and at a point, efficiency of cells ofcourse would reduce to an extent that 100% absorption of nutrients from food we eat is not possible. See, disease and ultimate death is the only reality of our existence. Perfect body with no disease and 100% absorption of food will keep body as young as it was in 20's which is not possible since death is inevitable. Our physical body is temporary and cannot be permanent and we cannot die without inefficiency of our body to assimilate food with age. However, we can delay aging by living a healthy way of life.

Malabsorption of macro and micro nutrients is not uncommon in diseased state. We diabetics need to check for Vit. D, Vit. B12, iron, magnesium for sure. Having Vitamins D level above 50 is essential which generally is not if you do not take supplement. Optimum level of Vit. B12 should be around 1000 since only 20% of it in blood is in active form. People taking Metformin must take Vit. B12 supplement daily in mecobalamin 1500 mcg sublingually. That is put it under tongue and let it dissolve. If you do not take B12 if you are taking Metformin, Vit. B12 in blood will go down since Metformin depletes B12 and you may get neurological problems especially neuropathy as common in diabetes which is very serious. Magnesium, Chromium should be also at optimal levels for blood sugar to be normal. Supplements from good pharmaceutical companies and branded products are of good quality and you need not to worry about it's effectiveness since I already take it. Next time you do blood work, do check all these vitamins and minerals and let me know if you wish.

As you wish. I also take Meshashringi (Gymnema Sylvestre), Diabecon, karela tablets from Himalaya Herbals. Take Ashwagandha also. Turmeric is also good for reducing inflammation which we all diabetics have.
